Something I like to do with my painting is draw attention to the way our perceptual systems work.

Sometimes the viewer sees the piece from a distance or in a small thumbnail and thinks it might be a photo, then is surprised when seeing the brush strokes up-close at how messy or 'painted' it looks. A miniscule lesson in how things are not always as they seem.
