Flor De Noche Buena
Acrylic on canvas, 60 x 45cm
The poinsettia is native to Mexico and Central America and is steeped in religious folklore. The title means flower of the good night and refers to Christmas Eve.
The Aztecs called it Cuetlaxochitle which roughly translates to shit-flower, possibly because birds ate the seeds and it grew from their droppings; good things can come from crap.
